What are Migraines?

Whether you are stressed at work or have not eaten enough in the day, everyone experiences some sort of headaches, some on a daily basis.  Most headaches can be cured with either rest or a good meal.  Most headaches are non-threatening and a way of the body telling us there is either food or rest lacking.  Some people often mistake headaches for migraines and treat them with over the counter medication. The difference between headaches and migraines is that a headache is simply a symptom whereas a migraine is a sort of disease. There are cases where Migraines can last for hours, days or even weeks and can be extremely painful; they usually come together with feeling nauseous, vomiting, fatigue, blurred vision or the increased sensitivity to light. When blood vessels enlarge, migraines occur whereas headaches occur due to the narrowing of blood vessels.

Most headaches re not serious and can be cured by over the counter medication if the pain is sever, or simply by resting.  However if your headaches are accompanied by other symptoms such as a high temperature, sweating or a sickly feeling in the stomach then it is recommended you visit your doctor immediately.

Migraines are different to headaches; they are more of a neurological condition which can be very painful.  Migraines can last up to 72 hours and in rare cases even longer, these attacks can be severe causing a person distress and allowing them to continue with their daily routine.
