A Guide to Improving Your Love Life - Part 1

Erectile dysfunction (ED) is an extremely common problem and although it’s a fact that the vast majority of men will experience some sort of erectile problems during their lifetime, it lends little consolation to those suffering from the condition.

Erectile dysfunction can be mentally damaging to an individual resulting in psychological symptoms, including lack of self-esteem, sexual anxiety and relationship problems, but the fact of the matter is, it needn’t. Indeed, there is a whole host of host of medications available to help alleviate the problem, allowing those that suffer from it to lead a perfectly normal sex life.

But what causes erectile dysfunction? There can be many reasons as to why a man can’t get an erection and these can be both physical and psychological.

Psychological refers to the individual’s mental well-being and factors regularly consist of depression and anxiety, although performance anxiety is also an increasingly common cause of erectile dysfunction, particularly in new relationships.

However, more commonly, erectile dysfunction can be traced back to physical attributes which can include:

Blood flow issues to the penis: When the amount of blood being carried to the penis reduces due to the narrowing of the arteries, it becomes difficult to get and maintain a full erection. This is a common cause of erectile dysfunction, especially to those aged 40 and above.

Changes in Hormones:  One of the main male hormones that help with sexual activity and maintaining an erection is Testosterone. A reduction in this hormone can make it difficult to get an erection, but can also reduce sex drive and affect a person’s mental state.

Trauma or injury: Another factor that can cause erectile dysfunction is any kind of injury to the penis area, commonly occurring during physical activity such as sport and exercising or any type of accident. It is also important to note that any nerve damage such as spinal injuries can also cause damage and cause erectile dysfunction.

Lifestyle choices: Certain lifestyle choices can also be a cause of erectile dysfunction. Excessive amounts of alcohol and/or drugs can cause toxins to build up in the blood, affecting not just your major organs, but also those involved in sex.

However, erectile issues needn’t mean the end of your sex life. There are plenty of medications available to help resolve the issue, such as:

Levitra

Levitra is most commonly used for erectile dysfunction and works by relaxing muscles and increasing the bloody flow to and around the penis.

Cialis

Cialis contains the active ingredient Tadalafil which works by relaxing the muscles in the walls of the blood vessels. Cialis is a popular treatment as it takes effect quickly and can last longer than alternative medications such as Viagra and Levitra.

Viagra

Viagra was the first drug of its type to be licensed in the UK and has been proven to be extremely effective in men suffering from erectile dysfunction. Viagra contains an active ingredient called Sildenafil, which works by relaxing the muscles and increasing blood flow to the penis.

Spedra

Spedra treatment is fairly new to the market. It contains the active ingredient Avanafil, which enhances the erectile response when a man is sexually stimulated. Spedra is extremely effective and as it is absorbed quickly into the bloodstream.

Nipatra

Nipatra is a chewable tablet that also contains the active ingredient Sildenafil, which improves blood circulation in the penis, allowing men to get and sustain an erection when they are sexually stimulated. Nipatra is the first chewable tablet that treats erectile dysfunction.

Muse

Muse urethral sticks contain the active ingredient alprostadil which when administered directly into the urethra increases the blood flow into the tissues of the penis.

Caverject Injections

Caverject comes in the only FDA-approved single-use, prefilled injector with a "dial-a-dose" system. This "dial-a-dose" system helps ensure the dose you set is the exact amount your doctor has prescribed. It works by relaxing certain muscles in the penis and widening the blood vessels, which increases blood flow.

However, unfortunately ED isn’t the only issue affecting countless men’s performance in the bedroom. Likewise, premature ejaculation is another detrimental condition which can affect a couple’s sex life drastically.

We’ll be taking a look at the causes of premature ejaculation and the available treatments in our next blog.
